Preview screens and viewfinders
By Jakob Jelling A sophisticated device such as a digital camera does not operate alone, along with it are associated a variety of components and peripheral devices that are themselves really interesting in nature. It is perhaps the necessity of the users of the digital cameras to understand and cherish the marvels of these component devices. In this effort this discussion focuses onto two primary devices of the digital camera. They are the preview screens and viewfinders. Discussing each of these two components devices individually and separately is an effort to impart the true acknowledgement they deserve. Coming to the first of them, they are the preview screens of digital cameras. As can be derived from the names, the preview screens are used to preview a photograph before taking it. The digital camera preview screens are basically monitors or are small LCD color displays units that are built-in the camera itself. They are essentially of small size of the order of inches. The preview screens of digital cameras offer a variety of advantages and incentives. The users of the digital cameras can review images and make alterations accordingly unlike the conventional analog cameras where a print can only be viewed after being washed. Even more a person can select images by scrolling through for printing from a computer, if he or she does not desire to print all the photographs. This scrolling through feature comes as a real new stuff for the users of cameras! Also as per the ease of use, some of the preview screens or monitors are made such that they can swing to virtually any position that suits the person using the digital camera. As a disadvantage of the preview screens of digital cameras comes the fact that they are heavy in power consumption and must be often turned off to save precious power. Also another problem is that the preview screens are difficult to view in bright sunlight due to their inherent nature of using LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) technology. Apart from these pros and cons, which everything has in bits at least, the preview screens of the digital cameras are certainly good and useful to the digital camera users. Next looking at the other important components device, the viewfinders of digital cameras. As an incentive towards fast and easy composition of images, certain digital cameras are endowed with an optical viewfinder. Their task can be understood as of framing images easier. The viewfinders basically are ideally useful for fast action while taking photographs. A great advantage of the digital camera viewfinders is that they do not consume much battery power and the batteries tend to last much longer. Some of the best optical viewfinders are popularly renowned as real-image viewfinders that come coupled with zoom lenses and can display the entire area enclosed by the image sensor. These digital camera viewfinders often are adjustable in a way such that a person does not need glasses when looking through the viewfinder also! The best-known digital camera viewfinders are known as real-image viewfinders. Of the different types of digital camera viewfinders available, some cameras slip in an electronic viewfinder (EVF), which is basically an LCD display just like the larger monitor behind the camera. As a disadvantage, the digital camera viewfinders do not reveal the fact whether an image is in focus or not. Otherwise these are objects that can be really treasured, being part of the digital cameras. Summing up in short, it can be said that preview screens and viewfinders are themselves more than just a few peripheral components, and this discussion is an effort to reveal what they truly are. Apart from that it can be said that a complete genius such a digital camera can never be complete without the preview screens and viewfinders, which can be aptly termed ... small wonders.
